Stair Treads, Risers & Staircase Flooring in Chicago's Western Suburbs
Treads, risers and landings built and finished to carry the same wood and the same sheen as the floor they connect.
The work
Stairs are where a flooring job is either finished or obviously unfinished. A new floor running up to carpeted stairs, or treads in a slightly different stain, is the first thing a visitor's eye lands on — and the hardest thing to ignore afterwards.
Stair work is also the most precise part of the trade. Every tread is measured individually because almost no staircase is perfectly square, and the nosing, the riser height and the stringer detail all have to line up before anything is fixed down.
What's included
- New treads and risers in matching hardwood
- Carpeted stairs converted to wood
- Landings finished to continue the floor
- Stain and sheen matched to the adjoining rooms
Common questions
- Can carpeted stairs be converted to wood?
- In most houses, yes. Once the carpet comes off we can see what the treads underneath are made of and whether they can be refinished or need to be covered with new wood. We check that as part of the estimate.
- Will the stairs match my new floor?
- That is the point of doing them together. Matching the species, the stain and the sheen across the floor and the stairs is far easier when it is planned as one job than retrofitted later.
- Can you do just the stairs?
- Yes. Stairs on their own is a normal job — plenty of people have a floor they are happy with and a staircase that lets it down.
